Entering Donations: Frontend vs Backend

Donations and pledges can be entered either through the frontend (campaign page) or the backend (HiRaiser admin).

Generally, it is recommended to use the HiRaiser admin to record new donations. However, there might be certain situations where using the frontend is appropriate.

Which method you choose generally depends on whether or not you want the donor to receive an automated Thank You email.

  • If you don’t want the donor to receive a Thank You email, then enter it through the backend. No email will be sent to the donor. If the donation/pledge was already made and you want to record it in HiRaiser for the purposes of the campaign, entering it via the HiRaiser admin is the best option.
  • If you do want the donor to receive an automated Thank You email, which also includes the payment options for pledges, then you should enter it using the campaign page and enter their email address, and select "Bill Me" as the payment method. It will be recorded as a pledge, and the donor will receive a Thank You email with payment instructions.

IMPORTANT NOTE WHEN USING THE BACKEND
Keep in mind that the actual payment (credit card, PayPal, etc.) can only be processed via the frontend, not the backend. So if you’re entering a donation using the backend, it has to be already paid or charged manually elsewhere, or entered as a pledge.
